Samdech Techo Youth Volunteer Doctors Treat More Than 2,000 People in Meanchey District

PHNOM PENH: The Samdech Techo Youth Volunteer Doctors Association (TYDA), led by Vice Chairperson Pech Chanmony, provided consultations and treated more than 2,000 people, as well as distributed study materials to 200 poor students from Stung Meanchey Primary School, in Stung Meanchey II district, Meanchey commune, Phnom Penh.

Pech Chanmony confirmed that a team of more than 200 volunteer doctors, including doctors from Malaysia and Japan, as well as other ear, nose and throat specialists, treated a total of 1,850 people (covering 3,693 cases) on the Sunday, 19 March 2023, TYDA mission.

She explained that TYDA's main purpose is to contribute to the efforts of national institutions, especially the Ministry of Health, by providing free health services to the people, regardless of race, ethnicity or political affiliation. She said the association hopes to contribute to the government's efforts to reduce poverty by providing health services to the poor, especially in remote rural areas, contributing to the training of human resources in the health sector, as well as providing students and other youth volunteers the chance to contribute to humanitarian work in society.

The Governor of Meanchey District, Hem Darith, thanked the TYDA Vice Chairperson for leading a team of doctors to provide free health checkups to people in the district.

According to a report from TYDA on Sunday's mission, 78 cases of serious illness were identified and sent for further treatment, with full costs covered by the Prime Minister and First Lady.
